About the Author

Lindsay Walton is the owner and Program Director of Open Door Development, founded in 2008 in response to a local community need for experiential training services that build strong teams and healthy communities. The company has grown continually since its humble beginnings and now serves clients across Eastern Ontario and beyond.

Trained in Recreation and Social Work, Lindsay is passionate about hands-on and interactive tools that help to bring people together in healthy community.

What particularly fascinates her is the human need for play and how central play is to our growth and development, as well as the maintenance of our physical, mental, and social health throughout life.

Lindsay's passion for experiential education was ignited and fueled by her experiences working in the field of outdoor education including positions with the Toronto District School Board, Adventureworks, and Camp IAWAH. She continues to be an active member in the challenge course, camping, and healthy living communities presenting at multiple events including the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), Ontario Camps Association (OCA), and Ontario Physical and Health Education Association (OPHEA) conferences.

Lindsay is also an active member of the Canadian Red Cross team serving as a First Aid Instructor Trainer and First Aid Auditor, helping to bring up the next generation of first aid instructors to provide the highest level of training and customer service possible as well as mentoring existing instructors.

Along with having found a career she loves as a facilitator, trainer, and author, Lindsay's time includes playing in the great outdoors going hiking, biking, climbing, and playing softball as well as drinking tea, and reading through her ever growing collection of books.

Lindsay and her husband call the national capital of Ottawa, Ontario home.
